Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Post by kay Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:59 pm

We finally made it!!!
10th admission with contractions, and Corey James has made his appearance!

I got desperate and took castor oil on Friday morning at about 10.30, and the contractions started about 12.
They got stronger through the day, so at about 4 we decided to head towards the hospital as it is 20 miles away, and last labour was quick! Had a walk around Tesco, and went to macdonalds, and then went and had a coffee in the hotel next to hospital, which is the one we had wedding at. I felt it was a good sign, cos as we walked in, Dido was on the radio singing 'thankyou', which was our wedding song and was also playing when Jamie was born.
I didnt manage my coffee, so we decided we needed to head towards labour ward!
Got in there at 6 pm, and we had a wonderful midwife called Ann, who made us feel really relaxed. She examined me and I was still only 2 cm, so they left me to it for a while, until i felt i needed pain relief. I started on gas and air, was examined, and was 3 cm, so at least i knew this was it! cheers
I relaxed quite a bit with the entinox, and managed the contractions well for a couple of hours, but it got really intense about 11 pm, and we had to get MW back. I felt like my waters were trickling, so she had a look and it was bright red blood, which concerned her a bit, so she examined me, and i was 7 cm. she decided to break my waters as she was worried about blood, and knew from history i go quick once waters gone.
as soon as they went, i just wanted to push, but they said no. she had another look and could see head, so let me push, 3 pushes and he was out!
It wasnt a pleasant last 1/2 hour, I was begging for extra pain relief and was screaming hysterically, but we got there eventually!
The MW knew i wanted to BF, so put him straight onto me for skin to skin, and we latched him on straight away. She was really good and left us for a couple of hours to get feeding established, and then came and weighed etc.
He fed pretty much solid from birth til 6am, and then slept for 4 hours! He has fed well since, and is enjoying sucking his fingers or thumb in between feeds!

So, Corben (Corey) James born on 15 February 2008 at 23.55.
Weight 8lb exactly. Length 50cm. Everything perfect.
