Andrew is not gaining much weight.
I took Andrew to the baby clinic yesterday and he has only put on 2lb in 10 weeks. I was concerned so I spoke to HV. Andrew eats breakfast and tea and has lots of breastfeeds.
HV was not too concerned as Andrew has been quite poorly this past month with chicken pox then eye infection followed by his ear and chest infection...Followed by diarrhea from the medicine
I have decided to get him weighed weekly so I can keep an eye on his weight and he will also be having 3 meals a day instead of the two.
Has anyone else's baby had slow weight gain?

Re: Andrew is not gaining much weight.
Hi
:aww: try not to worry about Andrews weight. It is understandable that he wont have gained much recently because he will have been using his energy to fight the infections and get well not to grow.
As long as he is not actually losing weight I would try not to worry (easier said than done I know!)
If you want to increase his weight could you try adding a few extra breastfeeds for a while? Your breastmilk will help him recover from being ill and it is very rich in calories.
:aww:

Re: Andrew is not gaining much weight.
Andrew has a fantastic appetite and always has eaten whatever I feed him. I always offer him breastmilk before about an hour before a meal. He was having a breakfast and a tea with a pudding. Now I am also giving him a lunch.
Andrew looks a lot better than he did a few weeks ago, I will keep an eye on what he is eating and get him weighed regular.

Re: Andrew is not gaining much weight.
My HV said that when you start weaning yours babies weight normally levels out for a bit until (ie they stop gaining weight). So I think this is completely normal.

Re: Andrew is not gaining much weight.
He is eating well and happy and healthy, so just keep an eye on his weight at clinic as planned if you are worried.
Like you said, he has been poorly, and is weaning, so its natural his weight gain wont be huge lately.
The main thing is he is eating well and past his poorly stage :aww:

Re: Andrew is not gaining much weight.
Aww im sorry I missed this one.
I agree with what everyone has said, its perfectly normal and considering hes been poorly, its to be expected.
You are doing great Rachel! :aww:

Re: Andrew is not gaining much weight.
I took Andrew to be weighed 7 days after the last visit.....He had put on 1/2 lb in 1 week
Looks like it was his illness that had stopped his weight gain.

I love taking pics and am making a scrapbook of all 3 children so I can show them when they are older. I have hospital bracelets, cord clamps and their tape measures to put in the book as well as scan pics.
