Teeth and breastfeeding.
Andrew now has 2 teeth. He bites down whilst I am feeding him. This is really uncomfortable as his teeth are like little razors.
How did you cope when your baby grew teeth?

Hi
This link may be useful

I found that Jack would bite if I wasn't paying attention to when he had finished feeding. So I watched him like a hawk and took him off the second he stopped. He soon grew out of it :aww: for now cos it really does hurt.

Re: Teeth and breastfeeding.
We've followed KellyMom's advice, especially watching for signs of teething/new tooth, boredom etc., using forozen face cloth to numb gums when teething, making sure she is latching on properly and if Maya managed to bite me I would quicly bring her close to breast, so close that her airway would be closed by my boob and she would let go instantly. Good clue I was given by friend is: when baby is properly atached to breast and sucking there is no way she/he can bite, as this would mean baby biting on its own tongue. So it helpes to concentrate on "senstation" in nipple while baby is properly atached to breast and you will feel difference straight away if she is geting ready for a bite. She will move her tongue "in" her mouth first.
Maya has now 12 teeth and canines cuting and we bf with great sucess and no biting for looooong while.
HTH :aww:

Re: Teeth and breastfeeding.
I was wondering is it possible for Andrew to bite me for the reaction he gets?
When he bites I have yelped a few times and Andrew has laughed, Does he think this is a game ?

Re: Teeth and breastfeeding.
From reading other peoples posts, they do do it for the reaction. If you unlatch him every time he does it he will soon get sick of that reaction!!!

Re: Teeth and breastfeeding.
my eldest went through this stage (lasted 2 months and really tested me). She would wait till I relaxed and wasn't paying attention and then she would bite down. She would also bite when my milk slowed down. So I would try and take her off before the, but of course thats not always possible. I did wonder whether she wasdoing it for a reaction and the thing I would do is not make a noise (very hard when you have a child biting on such a sensitive partof your body) and would take heroff and say o in a firm voice. She eventually got the message that teeth = no milk and this did stop the biting.

Re: Teeth and breastfeeding.
Yes I agree with wha has been said, I found it was best to unlatch and then see if she actualy wanted any.
More often than not she was doing it because she didnt really want any and was just trying her nashers out!

Re: Teeth and breastfeeding.
I started to pinch Andrew's nose very gently when he bit and this seems to have done the trick, I thought this sounded terrible when I was told by HV to try it but it really works.
He still bites occasionally but not every time he nurses.
