potty training
Olivia is showing signs of wanting to be out of nappies, she points at her nappy when she wees or poos and lets me know she has.
She taking it off herself and I think she would like to be without one.
She stands up in the bath and watches herself wee, well forses herself to wee sometimes so she can see it.
And then sits down after.
I would like her to have ago at going on a potty, but have no idea what to do :haha:
I am going to get her one on friday, but not sure what else im supposed to do, I know its going to be messy etc im prepared for that
:help:

Re: potty training
With all mine i've left the potty in the room so they could get used to it, even letting them sit on it fully clothed so it does not frighten them, cos as we all know some kids are frightened and easily unnerved by new experiences. If they want to get off straight away i let them, cos make it an issue and they wont want to use it again. Instead i've found when they actually do something on potty for first few weeks especially the first few times make a real big deal about how clever they are and how proud you are. Let them tell everyone that they see or that calls that they are clever cos they've wee'd on potty. They'll soon click on.

Re: potty training
we did it just like Sarah said. With John I mean.
But he was soooo slow to it, so finally when I was 10 months preg with Maya one week we went cold turkey with him: no nappy at all. We went thru zillion pairs of trousers, pants, socks and my carpet cleaner got run for its money but week later he was dry. He was 2 y and 8 months.
Poo issue took little bit longer, but i was told boys tend to be stubborn on this front. Or back :haha:

Re: potty training
Thanks for advice.
I really do think she woudl enjoy doing it, she reacts very well to praise and there is no rush.

Re: potty training
Mines still 6 month so not reached that stage yet! lol.
But my sister used to have some little presents wrapped up and everytime my niece would use the potty she'd let her open one! Took a while to be honest but it clicked one day with her.
It was so funny cos she used to walk round the house with no nappy on and once she walked behind the couch and all of a sudden started crying really loud! We all ran to see if she was ok, thinking she'd hurt herself. Instead she'd been walking and let a bit off pooh out then was terrified to walk near it! :pml:
My mum used to put us on the potty when we were a couple of months old! she'd keep the nappy in a position so the potty wouldnt be uncomfortbale and used to have us sat on her knee (not all at once lol) on it whilst she was watching tv. She swore by it and we were all potty trained really early!

Re: potty training
Yup - as with everyone else!
We had a potty in every room, lots and lots of kitchen roll, and a 'winky song and dance' for every time he did anything on potty or toilet.
We started a couple of hours nappy free time each day, and then when he was starting toget the hang of it, went cold turkey!
We are still trying to master standing up - but thats something you dont need to worry about!

Re: potty training
agree with everyone else, getting usd to potty in room and rewards when shes used it, not making a big issue of accidents (cos they will happen!) youre doing the right thing by following her lead she sounds like she is ready,
good luck! x

Re: potty training
You'll have to keep us all informed, Thats something else i have done with mine let them walk around with nothing on their bottom half, but like every one has said you have to be prepared for accidents, and when you do bite the bullet and use pants make sure you have loads to hand.

Re: potty training
Thank you everyone for your advice!
Well we got one yesterday, got home and took her nappy off.
Told her to do wee wee on potty, and she did !! :welldone:
Though that was the first and last time I think, shes not having any of it!
Weed about 10 times on the floor :haha: and today I sadi do you want to do wee wee on the potty?
And she said "NO!" and hit it and started getting angry with it, I think ti was a mixture of tierdness as shes a right grump in the morning ( angel in the afternoon )
So I think I will give it another go this afternoon when shes happier!
The porblem is, she drinks pints and pints of fluids (checked with doc and he said it was good!) so shes constantly weeing!!
Not sure what to do apart from try an hour a day with her

Re: potty training
Do you have any friends who's children are using the potty? When Ben first showed an interest in using the potty it was because we went to my friends house and he saw her son on the potty and then wanted to take off his nappy and use the potty.
Just an idea... :aww:

Re: potty training
Does she follow you to the loo, if so you could say does she want to be a big girl like mummy & sit on her special potty while your in the bathroom too ? James wouldnt use one for ages he'd throw it around & refuse, in the end i left one in the bathroom & one downstairs & after a month or so he decided himself to sit on it fully clothed as a seat & bit by bit we got down to sitting with pants & then nakey.
