Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Biting Empty Biting

Post by nac Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:51 pm

Hello All,

9 months and breastfeeding fab Very Happy

but now we have teeth in the equation -oh my lord she keeps biting me - she is biting when she is coming off the nipple, like she is tugging it so she can bite me.

I say ' NO BITING' firmly and she knows she is in trouble but still does it!
Is it a phase will it pass???

Maya was biting with every new tooth, only once or twice at the time, but enough to make me very very nervous. Just make sure to be clear about you do not want biting and if baby clamps and won't let go pull towards breast, so nose is blocked by boobie- baby will let go instantly, need to breathe is stronger than need to bite, lol.

hey there 👋
when my baby started to try and give me nipple piercings with his teeth, i soon realised he would do it and look at me (maybe for a reaction?) so i started to maintain eye contact with him while :boob:and it's worked... for now anyway. i know all babies are different but i hope this may help :gdluck:

I know it sounds cruel, but you need to cut her air out, only way... then just train her with:it hurts or simple no!

Biting Empty Re: Biting

Post by Squiglet Sun Feb 01, 2009 8:09 pm

Lil miss was always worse when she was teething. I found cutting her airway off not as effective as saying loudly "no biting", removing her from the breast and putting her on the ground and letting her throw a tantrum. Then after a little while letting her back on. But its trial and error.

lil miss is a biter so shes always going to bite, but its trying to use the same reaction for biting across the board and when she comes up and bites your shoulder blade its more difficult to push into it and cut her air off. Evil or Very Mad

Also we have phases of biting. Always when shes teething... and its during those times (usually a day or so before a new tooth pokes through) that I give her a regular small 1.5ml dose of calpol every 6 hours. It reduces her temper tantrums, reduces her comfort feeding and reduces her biting. She's teething and its painful Sad The teething necklace is good, but just before the arrival of a new tooth its always bad. Sad
