Nappy Rash (again)
Ok there's certain things in life some women do effortlessly and that I'm just rubbish at. Make-up perfume, getting clothes dry on the line (seriously I'm crap), etc. OH is about to made redundant so thought I would bite the bullet and get some reusables again. Got masses off freecycle which is so cool, freshly laundered, so I cleaned them again and tumble dried them to make them nice and soft (plus I'm rubbish with clothes lines..). Put them on the babies, and within a day both have nappy rash. Am changing regularly (not less than every 4 hours), allowing air time at nappy change, blah, blah - what am I doing wrong? Both are prone to nappy rash anyway, but metanium or aloe vera gel usually clears it up. Michael seems really prone so I wipe his bum with water with sodium bicarb in it which neutralises the uric acid. Anyway, please help, all suggestions gratefully received.

Re: Nappy Rash (again)
There might be soap build up from the previous user that they might be sensitive to?
I would strip them, and use white vingegar

My miracle cure: petroleum and baby powder. My daughter had the worst rash ever (like bleeding which we later found out was an allergy to disposables) but petroleum jelly and powder cured it completely in days!

Re: Nappy Rash (again)
Thanks both! How much white vinegar should I use in the wash? Does using fabric conditioner make a difference? Is it ok to use talcum powder on babies' bums - I thought there was risk of breathing problems or it acting as an irritant or something. I did get something called liquid talc which was basically talc but in liquid suspension so that that bit sinks in, leaving the talc on the skin. Wasn't hugely impressed, but this was ages ago. I have used petroleum jelly but didn't do an awful lot for either of them.

Re: Nappy Rash (again)
Using fabric conditioner effects the absorbancy of your nappies, so no you shouldnt use it. This will cause nappy rash as the wee isn't being absorbed properly.
Also make sure you are using a fleece liner (stays dry and lets wee through) and rarely use any bum creams etc as this also makes the nappies less absorbant due to it being a water replelant.
Airing nappy off time, drying the bum after wiping and changing will help and dont use fab conditioner, use white vinegar ( about two cap size fulls with vinegar lid)
