NFP and FAM
Ok after much research and thought im going to NFP
Hormones are a big no, and tried the copper coil and hated it, just felt wrong and had awful bleeding after trying the mini pill with Olivia (which I also hated).
Ive done a lot of research into FAM (fertility awareness method) and NFP (Natural family planning) and just feel really drawn to them.
It feels right and mt and OH have spoken and we are going to give it a real good go.
I understand the risk but if I do it properly (which I will as I want to get married before anymore) its just as effective as the pill.
Has anyone else tried or thought about it?
Heres some info
So orderd new BBT and will be starting my charting

FAM
Fertility Awareness Method
http://www.birth-control-comparison.info/fam.htm
Fertility
Awareness Method (FAM) is a collection of practices that help a woman
know which days of the month she is most likely to get pregnant. A woman
can learn when ovulation is coming by observing her own body and and
charting physical changes. She can then use this information to avoid or
encourage pregnancy.
NFP
Natural
Family Planning
Natural methods of family planning use
fertility awareness to identify the fertile and infertile phases of a
woman‘s menstrual cycle. This involves observing the natural signs and
symptoms or clinical indicators of fertility.
Couples learn to
identify the fertile and infertile phases of the cycle and to abstain
from intercourse during the fertile phase if pregnancy is to be avoided.
This method requires observation of more than one clinical indicator of
fertility - a multiple index approach - usually a combination of waking
temperature and cervical mucus. This ensures the highest degree of
efficiency in avoiding pregnancy.

Of
course both can be used to concieve aswell.
The difference as im
aware between each is FAM women use condoms during fertile phases but
NFP Women use no contraception at all.
FAM
* Perfect use:
If used exactly according to the directions, between 2 and 10 women out
of 100 might become pregnant in one year (depending on the FAB method
used).
* Typical use: For typical users, between 12 and 25 women
out of 100 might become pregnant when using FAB methods for one year.
There is limited research on how well these methods work to prevent
pregnancy. It depends upon how well a woman observes and records her
fertile signs and how well the couple is able to abstain from sex or use
a barrier method. The ability to do these things correctly will clearly
affect how well FAB methods work.
NFP effectivenes
Typical
use: 77-88% effective
Perfect use: 95-98% effective
So orderd new BBT and will be starting my charting
Re: NFP and FAM
I don't have any experience of NFP, but I did chart while TTC. My main problem with charting was that I couldn't always pinpoint ovulation until after it had happened - which of course was useless in TTC terms!
I also looked at CM and used ovulation strips - with greater success.
I have a fairly irregular cycle though. I think if you are fairly regular you would get good results - and as long as another pregnancy wouldn't be the end of the world if it did happen, it seems like a sensible option.
