Sickness bug
Yesterday Brody had a sickness bug now Colby has started with it. He cant keep anything down and even retching when his tummy is empty.
Should I still offer him as much milk? As soon as he had been sick he wanted milk, then brought it all back up mid-feed

Re: Sickness bug
keep him on the milk hun - as often as he wants it, give it!
It is better than plain water as it has the calories in it and your antibodies.
even if he is bringing it back up, if some is staying down its better than nothing.
Keep an eye on his nappies to check for how wet they are.
when corey had it a few weeks back, we resorted to dripping water (had stopped BF) into his mouth when he was asleep on Dave!
Hopefully its just a 24 hour one, but if it goes on any longer, go see the GP hun xxx

Re: Sickness bug
To be honest I am scared to try - he is retching up phlegmy spit almost constantly and when I last fed him he brought it up before having hardly anything
I will try giving him a feed in a mo and see how he goes
Thanks Kay

Re: Sickness bug
Coreys phlegm started to turn horrid colour - i was worried it was his stomach lining, so phoned NHS direct - they were fab!
you could try water if he will take it - i dripped it from a bottle teat as he was snoring

Re: Sickness bug
Well he feel asleep before I gave him any milk. That is just crazy because he NEVER falls asleep without milk! I am expressing because I'm filling up! He has been having loads the last few days.
Maybe I could just give him sips of the expressed milk instead of him having a full feed all in one go. Would that be just as good?
Eeek no wonder you worried. I panic a bit as I have always had a sickness phobia. Luckily it isn't as bad as it was and I have coped pretty well thank God. I am so pleased Kev is home though!

Re: Sickness bug
yeah, just get him sipping some - he might keep it down better a little sip at a time rather than a full feed.

Re: Sickness bug
Hows colby doing now jools?
I really miss when bethany is poorly because that used to be the only thing she would take and used to make me feel so much better knowing that i could give her that. felt so helpless when she was poorly the other week and couldnt have my milk any more

Re: Sickness bug
Thanks so much everyone
Well he seems to be keeping a fair bit of milk down but he was sick in the night again just as we thought he was getting better! He seems ok now though so fingers crossed that is it.
Now I feel rough

Re: Sickness bug
That is so strange...this has only just popped up in my search of new posts today.
I hope you are doing OK jools...and that you are feeling better. In anything like that, the important thing is to keep pushing fluids if they want them, especially breastmilk as it contains a lot of antibodies to help fight stomach infections

Thank you Squiglet
He was having more milk than food the last 3 days but he has got better. The first day he was bringing the milk up mid feed then a while after the feed now he hasn't been sick since 1.30am this morning so fingers crossed that is it.
Hooray for boobie milk that is all I can say
