Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

OK, so I know I should be stripping the nappies every now and then, but I'm not sure how to do it or even how frequently. Can anyone enlighten me please?! Stripping nappies Icon_redface

In case it makes a difference, we use a combination of terry squares, MotherEase shaped nappies, two different types of stuffable nappies (Fuzzibunz and Nature Babies), and some other type that I'm not sure what they are!

Thanks...

This is what I do Very Happy

Do a cold rinse, which I do before every nappy wash Wink

Then do a full wash cycle at 50 or 60 degrees with a full dose of detergent - biological is best (for both the nappies and machine), and apparently if you can add 1/2 a cup of soda crystals that helps especially in hard water areas, but we don't so I never have.

Then do repeat rinse cycles until you see no more bubbles, which I've found can be as many as 5 or 6 times.

Finally do one more rinse with a splash of white vinegar and some lavender oil, this acts as a softener and nice fragrance, in fact I do this at the end of each nappy wash if I've got white vinegar in Wink

HTH Very Happy

Tell us about yourself : I'm a SAHM to Kacie aged 10.5 months. I'm very into an AP way of life, baby-wearing, co-sleeping, breastfeeding, etc. We're coming up to one year and I'm looking for places where I won't be looked down on for extended breastfeeding. I have no intention of weaning until Kacie wants to. We're also traying to conceive baby no. 2, so really hoping to tandam feed and will be looking for support to do this too.

Thanks Davina, that's really helpful.

I meant to add, would it make a difference at all that we use Ecover?

I use Ecover and do a similar routine to Davina Stripping nappies Icon_biggrin

Also every 12th or so wash I put them in on a 60deg with no detergent at all, then rinse with vinegar.

Then after do a normal wash with half the amount I would normally use and continue with my normal routine on a 40deg.

I wash my nappies every 3 days.

Thanks ladies, that's really helpful and one of these days I might actually get around to doing it!

Apologies for always taking so long to reply to posts, I usually check the forums from my phone but for some reason I'm not able to post that way, so then have to wait until I have a chance to use the computer.
