Re: Your story
I shall go first! (I'll try and keep it brief!)
I have3 children, and i am pregnant with my fourth.
When i had Jamie, my eldest, i hadnt really thought about how i would feed him, other than i would give breastfeeding a try. I still bought bottles and formula, just in case.
I was discharged from hospital the day after having him, just about breastfeeding, but by the following day, was screaming in pain and dreading every feed. The MW phoned to say she was too busy to visit, and was everything ok, and i told her i was really struggling with breastfeeding and he wouldnt settle. She told me to give him a bottle, so i did.
slowly the brestfeeds got less, the formula feeds got more, and my milk never came in, so we managed 3 days.
I conceived Tyler when Jamie was just 12 weeks old, and was so busy being a new mum and pregnant again, thoughts of how i would feed him again didnt come into my head.
I had him at 38 weeks, and was on a 6 hour discharge from the hospital, again, being discharged 'just about feeding'.
On day 2, with nipples pouring blood and me crying in agony, i couldnt even express, and he was switched to formula.
I suffered really bad with post natal depression after Tyler, which i think was a combination of having 2 children so close together, and a feeling that i was inadequate as i couldnt breastfeed.
As they grew, and my depression lifted, i realised that i had done my best by my children, and they were both happy and healthy children, and that them having formula certainly wasnt the end of the world, it provided them with the nourishment they needed when i couldnt.
I got pregnant with Corey when Tyler was nearly 3, and having a bigger age gap and some experience under my belt, I decided to do a bit of research into breastfeeding. It helped that i was now online, where as i wasnt with the other 2, and i came across this forum (thankyou Tash!).
I posted stupid question after stupid question (IMO)- big boobs, flat nipples, what if my milk doesnt come in, - and to just get the knowledge of other BF mums and be armed with info turned my perspective around completely.
I realised that I could breastfeed, it just didnt nesseccarily come that naturally when you havent got a clue what to expect!
anyway, I fed Corey exclusively for 6 months, and introduced BLW at 6 months.
We joint weaned just before his 2nd birthday when i was 8 weeks pregnant with this one, and i am so proud of myself!
I dont regret that i didnt manage to breastfeed Jamie and Tyler, it was a learning curve, and in hindsight i had no support at all. Dont get me wrong, it would have been wonderful to breastfeed all of my children, but none have suffered because they weren't, if that makes sense?
I just hope I have an easy breasfeeding journey with my little Frankie too!
