Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times

Hi everyone
I'm Gem, mother to Ben, 3 (nearly) and Daisy, 3 weeks.
My son wasn't breastfed, I tried but he was always crying to be fed and I reluctantly gave up after 5 days.
This time, I tried not to put too much pressure on myself but so far (touch wood) things seem to be going ok.
I'm really proud to be breast feeding, although having visitors and going out is a pain. I think I need to care less about what people think.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone,
Gem xxxx

Thanks for the welcome Kay,
Did you get embarrassed the first time you fed in public? And how do you manage with having visitors? I'm ok with my girl friends or female family members, but when my dad came round I did cringe!!

I was embarrassed at 1st - but it took a trip to a restaurant with my hubbies aunt and uncle to change my mind.
The aunt tried covering me with 3 blankets whilst feeding him, the poor mite couldnt breathe bless him, and it drew more attention to me than if i had discreetly lifted my top and fed him - that way no-one even knows what you are doing!
Anyway, i chucked the blankets off, much to her embarrassment, and i have never looked back!!!

👋 Hi Gem! Welcome to the forum you'll really love it on here - everyone is so helpful and has great advice! Its helped me so much!

With the feeding in public - i think everyone cant help but be a bit nervous at first but you soon get comfortbale with it, well i did anyway lol. The first time i fed Bethany in public was on a crowded train platform (i did have my sling on though lol).

I no what you mean about the dad thing though - i dont even like watching people even kissing on tv in front of him Embarassed (i'm 27 for gods sake whats wrong with me?! lol) but i soon got over it. Although if he no's i'm feeding he wont talk to me directly he'll look at the wall or something haha! :pml:

I no that feeling kay! When i'm feeding and mums there she tries to do that with the blankets! I just give here a funny look and throw the blankets off the baby! lol

Hi! I am new, too, but I am absolutely enjoying getting to know people here. Smile About the feeding in public...it does get easier and you will get "smoother" with your moves so that most people don't even notice that's what you are doing. I pretty much forego the blankets any more, too. It's too darn hot with 90% humidity and temperatures in the 90's F. (What is that? 30 something degrees C?) Anyway it is hot and sweaty! Smile
