Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Getting agitated while feeding Empty Getting agitated while feeding

Hi everyone

For a week now, especially at evening time, Daisy sometimes get agitated while I'm feeding her. She will keep pulling herself away (while sucking - ouch!!!) then try to relatch, and cry. Last week I got really upset while she did it but now I try to stay calm. I know there is milk there because I squeeze my nipple and its there straight away.
I'm wondering if it is my milk flow slowing, or over-tiredness? As normally she will fall asleep after doing this. Last night, she was doing this at about 9.30pm, then slept 10pm-4.30am - her biggest sleep yet!

Anyone have any ideas?

Mollie sometimes does this i think its when she's tired, or over tired. She also does it sometimes when she got wind she hasn't parted with. She will mess about trying to latch back on, i have started giving her a nipple shaped dummy when she does this and then she too will nod off.

Corey is often like this in the evening, he cluster feeds and is on and off all evening - especially if he is having a growth spurt.
As frustrating as it can be for me, I do find He settles much better through the night for me after an evening like this!

I agree with Kay it sounds like cluster feeding.

Babies are often like this in the evenings and then seem to sleep for a longer stretch.

It shouldn't last long. Just go with it and use the time you are sat on the sofa to catch up on tv and don't worry about getting stuff done in the evenings for a while :aww:

If she gets really frustrated try giving her to Dad for a bit ( a sling is good ) this will give you both chance to calm down then you can try feeding her again.
