Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times

Colour of milk Empty Colour of milk

Post by gem1981 Thu Sep 25, 2008 2:53 pm

When I leave my milk in the fridge its looks horrible when its seperated. There's a creamy layer on the top and underneath its almost like water, like a very pale green water. It looks vile. Shane looked at some yesterday and was asking if its off! (It wasnt) Please tell me thats normal?!

Yes it's normal, the reason it's separated the hind milk floats to the top and the fore milk sits under it. Still good stuff. Have you been eating a lot of greens lately?

My milk was orange at one time. Anyway BM isn't meant to be looked at. Just get on with it. You are doing a great job. Very Happy

That links great Kay, shows exactly what it looks like. I only read the other night that you shouldnt shake the bottle! I didnt know that before. How do you get it all to mix back in? I tried swirling it but it was like cream in water.

Yes swirl, don't shake! Can't remember why but you should never shake EBM!

Tell us about yourself : People who have kids by more than 3 different men are SLAGS. They don't give a shit about the welfare of their children, otherwise they would be keeping their bloody legs shut and creating a STABLE environment for their kids, either in a stable relationship or as a single mother - because single mothers are perfectly capable of being fantastic parents. If you want to sleep around use some fucking contraception until you are sure your partner is in it for the long haul, it is not fucking difficult. Kids need stability - they don't need a succession of men coming in and out of their life.

Breastmilk is 'live' and shaking kills it.
