Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

MIL..... Empty MIL.....

Post by Mervs Mum Thu Jan 01, 2009 7:01 pm

I hope this is in the correct section.....

My MIL thinks I feed DD too much

She keeps making little comments indirectly.....she actually says stuff to Hebe (!) which is clearly for my 'benefit'.

Over Christmas (she was staying with us) she would say 'Oh you're feeding her again??' or (to baby if she was holding her as she started to 'twitter') 'Oh you cant be hungry can you, sometimes you cry just 'because'....' and when I took her off of her and immediately begin to nurse her she says 'Is she really feeding again?' Then she'll say 'No wonder my babies cried so much - everytime she starts you feed her!' Erm....yeah!

When she had DH and SIL the 'rules' were that you fed your baby for 10 mins either side burped them then you didnt feed them for another 3 or 4 hrs, no matter what.

How can I help her understand what I'm doing or do I just think stuff it!? I know this is the start of things to come as far as her opinions.....:icondoh:

Razz Thats all I do is laugh.

They think they know when they really do not!

Feeding on demand is the best thing you can do.

:aww: Id say stuff it, but thats me.

I used to say things but in the end I gave up as some people are just so stuck in the 1800s that there is no hope Razz

I've heard it all do from mil and hubbys gran....'she cant still be hungry' 'shes full of wind thats why shes crying she doesnt need feeding again' 'she's got colic'...blah blah blah.

Everytime i was likewell actually :boob: are less likely to have colic, and no she hasnt got wind, and yeah she does want feeding. The thing is, they never come to see my baby so especially when she was a little baby and we had gone to his parents or grandparents and she didnt no people she wanted to feed more, espaicially for comfort. I tried to tell them that too. But the next time it would be the same questions so i gave up Laughing

Yes well my MIL insists that there is no nutritional benefit to breastfeeding a child beyond 6 months... oh and apparently the only reason I bf'd lil miss is because of my own psychological benefit and I'm mentally harming her.. affraid

Shes also reluctant to give any expressed milk to lil miss if she is caring for her and I'm working Sad
