Angela:
Can hepatitis B vaccine be given during pregnancy or when breastfeeding?
Yes, neither pregnancy nor breastfeeding should be considered a contraindication to vaccination of women. On the basis of limited experience, there is no apparent risk of adverse effects to developing fetuses when hepatitis B vaccine is administered to pregnant women. The vaccine contains noninfectious HBsAg particles and should cause no risk to the fetus. HBV infection affecting a pregnant woman might result in severe disease for the mother and chronic HBV infection for the newborn.
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/b/faqb.htm#vaccine

I'm clearing it with LC and IBCLC also.

ITs looking good, hun :aww:

According to Dr. Hale's "Medications and Mother's Milk" the Hep B vax is an inactivated non-infectious vaccine. No data is available on its use in BFing mothers but it is unlikely to produce untoward effects on an infant. It's also rated an L2 SAFER:
Drug which has been studied in a limited number of breastfeeding women without an increase in adverse effects in the infant; And/or, the evidence of a demonstrated risk which is likely to follow use of this medication in a breastfeeding woman is remote.

This is email IBCLC just send to me regardles your vax.
Next step is to call BfN drug line, whitch I encourage you to do strongly:
0844 412 4665 .

If I would be in your shoes: i wouldn't wean.

The girls are all right Angela...when I started working with adults with challenging behavior I was in the early stages of pregnancy with my son Ben (now 4) I needed to have the vaccine too and when I asked my GP he said you have it as it didn't have any effcts on baby as far as studies knew!
Ben is absoloutely fine and breastfed for 13 months no probs!!

What a horrible experience for you :aww:

It is just wrong that people in the medical profession can give infomation that is wrong and which if you had nowhere to ask would have resulted in your nursing relationship coming to an end before you wanted it to.

In any other area of medicine it would be called negligence.

Glad it worked out ok

Just shows how utterly invaluable this Forum is for breastfeeding Mums and their babies!
Also Angela when you become a midwife you will be able to give this advice and your experience to other pregnant and BF Mums and hopefully break a chain of malinformed ignorant Health professionals!
So happy you and LO are continuing! XXXX
