Comfort feeding?
When I am not around lil miss doesn't "Need" boob...sometimes, when she's tired apparently my mum says she'll call/look for me... but in general its not needed.
She has around 5 bf's a day when I am working, but on a weekend she is just constantly at my boobs... pulling my top down, crying, going on coming off... If we go out she won't be bothered. But the minute we come home...its all boob! :boob:
Shes a proper little booby monster, but suspect that a majority of her feeds are just comfort or something to do . Sometimes she hops on my lap has a couple of sucks and jumps down again (usually with my nipple still firmly gripped in her teeth )
The question is Why does she comfort feed? and should I put my foot down and stop this. I wouldn't say I don't mind. My nipples can hurt a bit because of all this... but then if she needs it then I'm not fussed... What do others do?

Re: Comfort feeding?
Willow does this, sometimes i dont even think she realises shes doing it! its just cos its there! i try and discourage it when i feel she doesnt need it for comfort or food, by distraction- toy, biscuit etc but i dont make a big deal of it- i dont like upseting her so if she makes a fuss i just let her on  bit soft i know
shes probably just making up for lost time making sure theyre stil hers!

If you scroll down there is abit abotu comfort nursing older children.
All in all its whether you happy about doing it, if it isn't a problem then there really isn't one?
Lots of young children comfort nurse, its as it says in Kelly mom like a dummy or sucking on the hand. Its what they know and it is a great comfort to them.
I don't think she would be doing it if she didn't 'need' it, there is a reason behind the comfort feeding and that is for comfort.
There is a suggestion that if it hurts you need to go back to latching techniques, its a two way thing and they need to be willing to do what you need for them to feed.

Re: Comfort feeding?
Just wanted to say we were going through the same thing & since Ellie learnt how to go to sleep on her own shes stopped doing it so much and now when she does I put her in her cot and she goes to sleep within a few mins so it seems to be more of a 'i'm sleepy & want boob' thing with us. She doesnt have boob during the day at all anymore, sometimes she will have it in the afternoon but its mainly just morning & bedtime now. We were feeding like you 5 times a day but since she learnt how to go to sleep these feeds have dropped gradually down to 2 feeds.
If however we are out or somewhere other than at home & shes tired she drags down my top and wants boob to send her to sleep as she hasnt been put in her cot, finding it hard to stop her doing that but it can be a bit embarassing at times lol so if anyone has any ideas on how to stop that i'd be grateful!
Hope that helps a little x :boob:

Re: Comfort feeding?
Thanks for the link natasha... Although lil miss is one strange one. She will booby all day and all night if she could. It just seems to be purly comfort. The pain comes because she wants me like a dummy. So she gets bored of being on the boob and tries to get down from my lap with my nipple still in her mouth So thats why its sore.. Its definitely a latch issue in that sense.
I'm reasonably ok with being her dummy, but some days when she will jump up and jump down about 10 times in 20 minutes I get a little bit annoyed and hacked off. I want to sort of discourage her doing is so much, rather than not do it at all if that makes any sense.
I don't think its possible

Re: Comfort feeding?
Hmmm yes I see what you mean, I think it would do my fruit in too!
See saying no wouldn't work and sayign no is quite negative anyway and thats certaintly not what you want her to think boob is so the only other suggestion is if you did her some momsicles?
Then she can snack and take her mind off using you as a dummy as much, or find some sort fo chewy toy thing (im not making out shes a dog )
lol shes a toughy!!
