Well my stupidity put my dd in hospital
After my posts about wanting to stop feeding her, i decided that enough was enough and stopped, cold turkey and all that.
On tuesday last week she was admitted with severe dehydration, but also with a high temp. Granted its not my fault with the high temp, but i feel like it was my fault with the dehydration.
When we got to the hospital her temp was 42 and was taken into High dependancy unit, blood glucose was 1.9 and was near to a coma, later turned out she had an infection in her blood and tonsilitus. :tear: :tear: :tear:
She now out of hospital and better, still on medicine etc but doing ok. Now im back to feeding her more out of guilt to be honest, but she wont take a bottle nor drink from a cup. I am now only :boob: as its all she will drink liquid wise and im scared she will dehydrate again.
I give her formula with her cereal and ive started mixing it in her yoghurt too but other than that she only feeds morning and night. Im back to work on wednesday too so im stressing.
She is nearly 9 months

:aww: that must have been so scary for you. No point giving yourself a hhard time that wont help anyone. Important thing is shes fine now so try to put it behind you. If shes only feeding first & last thing she will wean off herself before long.

Re: Well my stupidity put my dd in hospital
Oh no how awful. Its not your fault at all hun. Dehydration is very common with temps 40+. Lil miss was admitted last week with a high temp like that and she was dehydrated too, and she still breastfed. But she wasn't drinking anything else and they need to drink over and beyond the normal amount with high temps. Its why the common advice for high temps is for them to drink lots, which obviously isn't always possible with little ones
If she will only take breast you'll have to keep on with that while she is unwell, but you can start again with weaning after. There is lots of perseverance involved in getting them to drink. Lil miss will only drink carton drinks atm, so I've got her pure orange/apple cartons, but because she's ill again I admit I have given in just to keep her hydrated. I'll face the weaning battle when she's well

:aww: Please do not blame yourself! it was not your fault.
Yes when they are poorly it will set her back, so it will be a case of starting again when your both ready :aww:

Re: Well my stupidity put my dd in hospital
It this rate i dont think she will wean herself off. If i cant stop altogether then i dont mind feeding these 2 times but wish she would take a bottle.
Im getting married in 9 weeks and want her to take a bottle just for this 1 night

She'll be alright for one night I'm sure. If you're not around and she can't have breast in that time, she may be more enticed to take a cup or bottle The only reason we managed to get lil miss onto a cup was because I was working and just not there.

Re: Well my stupidity put my dd in hospital
I agree with Squiglet, because your there shes going to want boob.
If your not and shes hungry she will have it from something.
