Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Daisys weight Empty Daisys weight

Post by gem1981 Mon Jul 14, 2008 3:22 pm

Disappointed today. I thought Daisy was going through a growth spurt at the moment, but I weighed her at baby cafe (my sensible thoughts are telling me she has never been weighed on those scales before so they could be wrong) and she has only put on 6oz in 2 weeks. She has always been on the 25th centile but is now starting to drop. Shes 13 weeks old tomorrow.

Helen: breatmilk has more calories than most of solids you are giving your LO, unless you are feeding her with chips and pork chops Wink
Its 22 kcal per oz, so quite a lot. If you consider she is getting 24-28 oz a day still, it really ads up. You might find this interesting: Calorie and fat content of common baby and toddler foods.

Gem: I wouldn't worry. Its probably scale, baby should always be weighed on the same scale and scales should be reseted before baby is put on them. But even then sometimes baby slows down a bit for many reason- hot weather, more moving etc.

Gem dont worry to much, Emily's weight to begin with was huge then it dropped & levellled at a much lower level, to begin with i was really worried thinking she was losing so much weight which of course she wasnt she just wasnt gaining as much & i view it now that she has just found her own level. Get Daisy re-weighed at your normal clinic and as long as shes doesnt consistently lose any & is alert & giving lots of nappies ,,dont worry.
:bighug: your doing great.

Thanks everyone for your replies and kind comments. I think I'm going to take Daisy to the clinic tomorrow and weigh her on the normal scales, trying not to worry too much about her weight though, like you say, she is still gaining. :aww:

Shes been fussing alot today. She isnt really herself today. I think it might just be because we had such a busy day yesterday and she was awake nearly all day yesterday. I dont know?!

Mollie was a bit like this the other day too, i found it was a little bit of everything that must have upset her. She had her next lot of jabs, then weather was clammy, i hadnt had much to drink all day and i think this must have affected my let down, and she'd been awake alot more than usual and in my opinion had been a little over stimulated by her over eager siblings so was well ratty. She'll be fine Mollie was different again the next day. Well done Gem keep up the good work. Smile
