Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Lil miss has a Urine infection... usually the treatment is to offer her lots to drink... but as I am working and she refuses milk during the mornings. The doctor has said she needs to drink lots of juice or water to help flush the bacteria out of the kidneys and bladder. Shes also on antibiotics and pain meds because she has a high temp, add to this the weather in Spain rarely drops below 35Âșc atm so she's sweating loads...

I've read on here that its bad to give water and that bf'd babies get all the fluid they need from breast milk... but lil miss really isn't and needs fluids so much more than normal... is short term water use safe?

Ellie started drinking water at about 4.5months. This is partly because I introduced solids just before this, however mainly because she took my glass of water from my hand and drunk from it! At five approaching 6 months there isnot problem giving them some water especially if they are ill.

Thats interesting as my HV said I should be giving her some water as I had started weaning when I asked her (as I wanted to check it was alright after Ellie decided to grab her own). However it won't be the first thing that has turned out to inaccurate from the HV. Neutral

It was more to help flush her kidneys out than anything... we were told to give her watered down cranberry juice to help... She seems a lot better on the antibiotics... but her wee still smells acrid... Sad

I try to avoid the juice if I am around, but when I am not there isn't much choice... Sad she never drinks that much... she much prefers mummy juice...
