Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Into the second year Empty Into the second year

Post by nickyjones Mon Sep 03, 2007 11:57 am

I am now entering the second year of breast feeding. I am now only breastfeeding Ellie just before bed and during the night if she wakes and needs it. She is sleeping through about 50% of the time, and I am sure it is teething pains which are waking her, when she does wake.

I am hoping that Ellie will at some point just refuse the night time breast feed in the next few months to a year. She has for all other breast feeds. Is this realistic?

Has anybody any suggestions for encouraging her to stop the last feeds? I am happy to carry on as I do enjoy the closeness etc, but at the same time it does mean I am the only one who can put her to bed and part of me would like to go back to hockey training 1 evening a week which would mean having Daddy put her to bed.... right now I don't think she would go down without me there.

Thanks for listening.

I've looked around and I came up with a bit of info about night weaning- I understand this is what you have in mind?

Thanks for that. I assume you meant 2 years :-)

It almost came to that recently as she ended up biting me during the night when teething badly a few weeks back and bruised me. That has healed up nicely and she hasn't bitten me since (fingers crossed).
