Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Caitlyn has gotten attatched to these two formula feeds that she just won't let go of! They're only 4oz but when I ask people for advice on whether I should just offer her water instead so she gets uninterested or just cut them they tell me not to deprive her! I'm so, so sure she doesn't need them. What do you think? They're after her lunch and dinner, so maybe she wants a drink? I'm pretty sure breast milk is all the drink she needs.

I wish I had the guts to go with my gut and just cut them cold turkey!

4oz each. Sorry! She will happily drink water out of a cup but everyone is saying she won't get enough milk. Since when has breastfeeding not been enough? She is on solids, 3 meals a day. TMI but she poo's atleast 3 times a day too! Definately not going to starve.

As long as you offer breast often she'll be fine, I would go cold turkey. I would even skip water whatsoever, no need to fill her up on nothing. :aww:

I wanna say: GO GO GO :boob:

Laughing Thank you! I think I just needed a push. It is definately what I want to do. I feel much happier breast feeding than sat there with a bottle in her mouth. She knows she's allowed my breast whenever she wants. She's on there as we speak!

Hopefully it won't be too much of a battle. Very Happy

I used to give a top up of formula in the early days. (weight problems) I changed it to EBM first then eventually stopped it.

I think just to stop is best thing to do its much easier your lo will increase your supply to what she needs.

It only took me 2/3 days to ditch our one formula evening top up Smile If I really feel the need to top up I use my morning pumped feed instead now.

I agree with Katie, just drop the lot.

You may find that over the next week that she will feed alot more often and you will feel slightly tierd!

Just make sure you have everything you need around you so you don't have to keep getting up and just relax on the sofa with her and feed as much as possible.

Also as Mervs mum has said she tops up with pumped feed now, so you could also do that as it will help bring your supply up by pumping.

LOL! She is really sleepy today, and was most of yesterday. I don't know whether it's a coinsidence? She hasn't really been awake more than 6-8 hours a day.. She used to be awake loads. Growth spurt maybe? Although she isn't fussing.. Not sure, but I'll stick to using nappies as indication of a problem.
