Breastfeeding, TTC, crazy OPK results...
Since my periods came back, they've been a little hit and miss, anywhere from 28 to 35 days. Soo, we're on our second month TTC right now and decided to get some OPKs. I've been testing since Sunday, had an almost +, a +, then two -'s. Great I thought, then I tested again today and got another +. Of course, that sent me on a crazy googling mission where I've now read about a million fertility issues this could possibley be the result of.
I'm not sure what to do. People are saying go talk to a doctor but I'm only on my second month TTC and I don't want them to tell me to stop breastfeeding first, and I know that's what they'll do. Or tell me to wait because I'm so young. Alright, I'm young, but this is right for our family and it took alot for us to come to the decision to TTC now.
I just want to know what's going on with my body.. :icondoh:

It can depend on the time of day - apparantly mid afternoon after having no drinks for a couple of hours is best!
but from my experience, breastfeeding interrupts your cycle, and these tests have not worked for me!
Im not TTC yet, just chat=rting, and my cycle has been 28 days to the day. I can tell when i am ovulating as i get ovulation pain in my ovary and moodswings, and my CM alters drastically, yet i have never yet pinpointed with one of these tests when i am ovulating!!!
I would say go at it like rabbits from day 12 of your cycle for a week or so, and enjoy rather than worrying if you are ovulating.
You have already conceived and carried, so i would assume you dont have a problem in that area. I would imagine it is the breastfeeding giving you some mixed answers. :aww:

Also you need to bare in mind when TTC your cycles (well OV day) will be all over anwyay, I always found that when 'trying' nothing would tie in and each month was very different.
Breastfeeding can delay ov and so can TTC!
Your best bet when TTC and especialy when breastfeeding is charting, ov sticks are not reliable on their own.
Along with cm charting aswell with give you a better picture.
I would BD everyother day from CD 12 to 18 (gives him time to replenish is fluids )
But you do really need to chart, as you will not know if you have ov'd and will need to BD near enough everyother day for the rest of the month.
Try and not stress about it, this will delay ov alone x

Hi Toria,
I found that TTC while breastfeeding was unpredictable and hard to really plan out. After 6 months of frustration, we finally decided to let nature take its course and just forget about ovulation and shag like bunnies whenever the mood took us - we fell that month!
If ovulation tests are giving you no real clue, it might be worth going by your bodily signs instead? Do you get ovulation cramps? EWCM around ovulation? If so these signs are more reliable than OPKs in some instances.
Failing all else, shagging every other day is a pretty sure plan
Oh, also, is it possible you ovulated early in your cycle and you could be pregnant now? As I took an ovulation test the cycle we fell pregnant... they were swinging from positive to nearly positive for a week in a row before I finally took a pregnancy test and found out that it was because we are expecting!
PS: If you cut down breastfeeding during the day for two days in a row, it should be enough to bring on ovulation, so doing this mid-cycle every cycle should have the same effect as taking clomid has for girls with ovulation problems - it tricks the ovaries into riping and releasing an egg
Best of luck,
Natasha
