Chickens!!!!!!!!!
Right well im going to start this section off with a chicken thread!
I saw some in the paper a couple of days ago and really wanted them.
Unfortunatly someone got there before me and I was gutted.
So its spurred me on to look for some and to research about them abit more.
I have found so much about them, not specificaly breeds but how easy infact it is to have them and how the can really help!
As well as a fab pet, quite often people sell the eggs (as they taste amazing ) so it covers their feed.
People use old sheds, bunny houses, old wardrobes etc to keep them in.
So thats it once im settled im on a mission to get me some chickens!
So anyone else looked into, or have any?

Re: Chickens!!!!!!!!!
Awwww lovely! Good luck with the search they are definitely worth it!
Look into adopting ex battery chickens, they still will be laying plenty.
My friend used to have chickens, basically smaller breeds are well adapted to urban gardens. Also she discovered silkies (sp?) have some issues with their heads- cos of all the feathers their head bones are really soft, which affects their brains.
She used to have 3 chickens with up to 20 eggs a week from them in summer season! Yummy!!!!

Re: Chickens!!!!!!!!!
ask on freecycle , we always have posts on ours for people wanting chicken coops & asking for chickens & cockerals. They are often abandoned to and we have a few hen havens near us where you can rehome unwanted ones. Good luck we would love to have some once we arenot renting

Re: Chickens!!!!!!!!!
Yey! thanks everyone!
I have been looking into ex bats etc and I think I will have around 4 hens, couple of ex bats but two first chickens will be rehomed I think.
I want to get rehomed rather than ex bats first as I want to give them the best tlc and have no idea how to look after them (other than what ive read) want to be confident before gettimg ex battery hens.
So im going to be looking out for 2nd hand coops etc and get the garden ready!
Ooo im excited!!!

Re: Chickens!!!!!!!!!
Right this week we are getting a fencing guy out as our fences are quite low (we back onto a stream) so before I get my chucks I need that sorted.
And OH said I could get a new house for them!!
So will be ordering that this week or next!! im sooo excited!!
I have been looking at getting bantams as they are small, apart from the usual type of chuck im looking out for some silkies to get aswell
Aren't they just the cutest!!
I will be getting about 5 chucks all together, a real mixture and then hopefully will extend (with another coop OH don't know this) for some ex batts, I will be putting my name down on the list
Wahoo excited!
