Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Just found out today my friend is about 9weeks pregnant. She has been asking me about BF cos she bottle fed her last 2. She not keen cos she says she thinks i will feel weird and she would be embarassed if her baby needed feeding in public. I've explained to her that there is no need for anyone to even be aware that she was bf in public as it can be done very discreetly, boobs dont have to be on display. Think she would give it a go if she got the right encouragement, she been asking loads of questions today when she seen me BF mollie. I have also said that the midwifes at the hospital would help her to latch baby on for first few goes, and if she has any problems when she got home with baby that i would try and help her if i could, i have also told her about this forum and all you great girlies, so hopefully she'll keep asking questions and by the time little ones born she'll be prepared to give it a go.

BF is a personal choice and in my opinion women are not given the information they need to make a decison about BF.

Whilst pregnant the only time BF was bought up by any one in the health profession was after I had given birth.

And only then I was asked how I would be feeding my baby.

Sarah...why not introduce your pregnant friend to this forum and let her talk to plenty of BF mums and then she can gather all the information she needs to make her own choice.

Good idea Rachel, its during pregnancy you need to start asking questions & getting help & yes the only time its mentioned is in the birth diary on how will you feed baby. By the time you ask its normally because your already having problems .
My friend had her baby last night & she has spent the last month asking me lots ...and its made her feel more relaxed about it all, so fingers crossed. Hope your friend joins us,even if its just to have a look about to start.
