Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Post by gem1981 Sat May 17, 2008 8:56 am

Hi ladies

Well since the middle of the night my throat has been really hurting and I'm generally feeling really run down and achy.
I'm worried about Daisy catching it with her being so young, she can't have any calpol or anything.
Has anyone got any natural remedy ideas so I can try and get rid asap?

Any help aprreciated xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Gem, I sympathise been feeling rough all week now with a bug, have been mainly getting as much rest as poss & try to drink plenty. Kay swears by black molasses for almost everything so might be worth getting a jar in (not sure how it tastes though) HV assured me Emily would be unlikely to get my bug as i was feeding whereas i was worried it would be in my milk !!! But to be honest i would wait & hear what the experts on here suggest. They know their stuff...... Hope you start feeling better soon, sorry i couldnt be much help.

Sorry to hear you not feeling well, hope you feel better soon. I too can't help you really other than to say make sure you drink plenty and rest as much as you can. Daisy will be getting your antibodies and immunities but not sure how it works when you ill yourself. Someone on here will know, but in the mean time chin up chick - get well soon.

Sorry you are feeling ill :aww:

By the time you show symptoms Daisy would already have been exposed to the bug. Your body will make antibodies to the bug and you will pass this immunity to Daisy when you feed her. So hopefully she might not get sick or will have a milder form than shhe might otherwise have done.

Take care of yourself and rest as much as you can

I'm a bit worried now, Daisy normaly feeds ALL day, yesterday being a prime example,
Today she has fed at 2.30am, 6.00am - 7.30am on and off, 10.30am - although she wasn't very fussed about this one.
What do I do? Should I keep waking her up to feed her (shes very sleepy) or do I express??
:help:

Don't know if it helps but Mollie now seems to be going longer between feeds, although she will still cluster feed on an evening and sometimes bit and bobs abit for an hour or so in a morning but will happily go every 3-4hrs during the day now.

She is probably going naturally longer between feeds.

As your body learns to make just the right amount of milk for Daisy's needs you wont feel as full. This is a good sign it means your supply is nearly established.

As lng as you follow her lead and feed her on demand you can't go far wrong.

You can express if you want to build up a store of milk otherwise I wouldn't bother you will just be telling your body you need more milk than you actually do.

You will know she is getting enough milk if she still has plenty of wet and dirty nappies and is settling between feeds.

I hope you will feel better soon!
And totally agree with Nichola!

Are you into homephaty,Gem? It is safe when bf- for mum.

Also camimile infusion -warm- and spoonful of honey with squeeze of lemon makes wonders to my throat when I'm ill.
