Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Nursing strike Empty Nursing strike

Post by Squiglet Sat Jul 12, 2008 1:27 pm

Lil miss has gone on nursing strike when I'm not around. She is refusing to take more than a couple of oz of milk when I'm at work and will only take solids with a small cup of milk.

When I come home she goes nuts and has to have a boob immediately where she will feed for around an hour... having expressed after coming home, I know she takes nearly 10oz in one sitting... some of which she will sick up (around 3oz)... So I suppose she gets her milk quotient in the day....

Is this OK? I know how important milk is, but unless it comes from me she won't have it... shes fine at weekends, feeds during the morning with no fuss, so its just that I am not here. Its causing lots of problems because she just screams and cries for me when I'm not here ... Sad

:aww: its fine. I guess you could call it reverse cycling. As long as she is happy and has wet nappies and bf a lot when she has you close by its fine. :aww: I wouldn't force her to have milk in bottle if she is not liking it. I would leave out expressed milk in sippy cup, just couple of oz max to prevent waste and let her help herself to it- this is what we were doing when Maya was smaller and I was out. She was much more happy to drink it like this. she never got used to bottle either.:aww:

Aww hun :aww:

I agree with Katie, feeding wise its fine for her to be doing that.
As for her crying while your not there, what about giving her a teddy?
Sleep with it so it has your smell, or do what I did and spray breastmilk on it Razz

That worked for me when putting Oli in her own room.

When Ellie first started at nursery (she was 5 months as well) she used to only take about 1oz from each bottle while I was away from her. She gradually started taking more and more I think it took about 1-2 months before she was taking sensible amounts from the bottle. I think it is not uncommon (if that makes sense)
