on and off and switching sides all the time!
hi everyone. i'm feeling rather frustrated and fed up at the mo because my 7 1/2 month old has been doing this thing of going on and off the breast repeatedly, for some weeks. I switch sides because i can see he is still hungry, he latches on eagerly, then comes off either crying or fussing again. then i switch sides again because i cannot get him to re-latch on to the same breast - he will just keep fussing/fighting it. this can happen up to 10 times!
He isnt ill in any obvious way that i can see. he is easily distracted bc of everything around him but it happens even at night sometimes which is a real pain having to move around in bed so much to change sides (we partially co-sleep). any ideas/suggestions?? thank you!

Re: on and off and switching sides all the time!
Did you try nursing necklace to keep him occupied? Or a little toy to play while he is bf?
We have the same problem as you now, again should i say. Maya like's now to bf standing, expecting me to have both boobs out and has few sec on each on and off, lol.
As for bed: we cosleep partially too and Maya sleeps between us. We don't switch sides, I just lean a bit forward and down- if it makes any sense, and offer "top" boob to her. I'm DD thou so it might be in my favour

Re: on and off and switching sides all the time!
thanks ladies! Bad Cop, the nursing necklace sounds like a good idea - could you explain exactly what you mean?
yes i think the teething might have kicked in again, but i didnt link it for some reason. He has had teething 'episodes' since 3 months and still has no teeth!
as for not switching sides, at night i have him on my side because my partner is oblivious when asleep and its not safe in our case. also i'm only an A cup so the leaning over to let him get at the 'top boob' just results in nasty backache for me LOL.
guess i just need to be patient...as with so many things!

Re: on and off and switching sides all the time!
I remember times like this and it was always something different each time.
It was anything from teething to cluster feeding during a growth spurt, I would say just go with it and I am sure it will settle in good time :aww:
