Spent the night in the ER with Kael
He has been sick all week with an upper respiratory infection. Then Thursday night he was crying and pulling at his ears. I looked in there with my otoscope and could see that they were definitley infected. I called my father in the morning who is a practicing physician and asked him call in some antibiotics for him. We started those Friday morning, but Kael was just not right.
He was super lethargic and breathing really fast and shallow. His fever would not come down lower than 102 degrees F. So, I was not comfortable. I called his pediatrician's office and could not getin for an appointment (hence, the reason I had asked my dad to call in the med before) and they told me to take him over to the ER. So I did.
He was so ill and lethargic he did not even fuss when they poked him all over to try to start an IV. They were unsuccessful. But they did collect some blood and his WBC's were really high so they gave him a shot of ceftriaxone (antibiotic). Within a couple of hours he perked up and started nursing again. He had a very, very wet diaper then. It leaked out on me...which was lovely.
They did a chest xray and he did not have pneumonia. The only thing we could find were his infected ears. One of them was leaking some yucky fluid so perhaps it ruptured. They let us come home. We will continue antibiotics for 10 days.
He is a different baby today. We slept until 1PM. He has been laughing and playing. I am so glad my boy is OK.

Thank you, everyone. He is doing so much better. Aside from his cough he seems like he is feeling fine. I am so, so glad!
